Recessed & interior lighting in South Orange County

Layout is the job. The holes are the easy part.

Most South County tract homes came with a single ceiling box per room, or nothing at all. Recessed lighting is the upgrade that changes how every one of those rooms feels — and the difference between a good job and a regrettable one is decided before the first hole is cut.

Layout comes first: spacing worked out for the room and the beam angle, cans kept off the joists they will inevitably find, kitchen counters lit at the counter rather than the walkway behind it. Then cut-in, wiring, and trim-out with the patching kept to a minimum — from the attic where one exists, fished cleanly where one does not.

Dimmers are matched to the fixtures on purpose. LED trims and the wrong dimmer produce the buzz and the 20-percent flicker everyone has met; the right pairing fades to almost nothing, silently.

What this covers

  • Whole-room and whole-floor recessed layouts, designed before cutting
  • LED wafer and can retrofits in existing ceilings
  • Under-cabinet and cove lighting
  • Dimmers matched to the fixture load — no buzz, no flicker
  • Switch-loop corrections and 3-way/4-way switching that works as labeled
  • Patching kept minimal and noted honestly in the quote
The craft argument. The tell of a proper lighting job is at 20 percent brightness: no flicker, no buzz, and light where the room actually needs it. All three were decided at layout, which is exactly the step most quotes skip.

Questions people ask

How many recessed lights does a room need?

Fewer, better-placed ones beat a ceiling full of holes. A typical bedroom wants four to six; a kitchen is designed around the counters and island, not the square footage. The layout comes with the quote, on paper, before anything is cut.

Will there be drywall damage?

With attic access above, usually none beyond the fixture holes themselves. Without it, wire gets fished and the occasional access hole is cut deliberately, discussed first, and noted in the quote — never discovered afterward.

Why do my existing LEDs flicker on the dimmer?

The dimmer predates the bulbs. Older incandescent dimmers chop power in a way many LED drivers cannot follow. Swapping to a dimmer rated for the fixture load fixes it in one visit.
