Electrician in Escondido, CA

Escondido incorporated in 1888 and still has the houses to prove it, and then half its homes arrived in the 1970s and 80s. Old wiring and middle-aged panels, in one city.

The Old Escondido Historic District holds about 900 homes from the mid-1880s on, Craftsman bungalows to Victorians, and wiring that old can be a century of layers: abandoned knob-and-tube, cloth-covered cable, a fuse panel someone never got around to, splices buried in the attic. Inside, that is patient, sectional rewiring. Outside, the district’s rules apply — exterior changes need a certificate of appropriateness, so a new meter location or service mast gets planned with that in mind.

Around the district, Escondido is a 1970s and 80s city, a quarter of its homes from each decade, so original panels past forty years old are the common call: the EV charger the panel cannot take, the breaker that will not reset, the remodel that turns into a service upgrade.

The foothill edges — Rancho San Pasqual, Eureka Springs, the hills around Dixon Lake — sit in the CPUC’s elevated fire-threat tier, and SDG&E cut power to Escondido-area customers in January 2025. On those streets, battery backup and a panel ready for it is ordinary planning, and solar and battery permits can go through SolarAPP+.

In the historic district? Mention it — anything that changes the outside of the house there needs the city’s sign-off first.
